Day 196 – 12 miles – 2,530 total

We had to get up and go early this morning as our friends Linda and Sonny we going to help us move our car again this morning. We met them at 7:30 am and then we ate breakfast at a place called Tim Hortons. It was horrible. Don’t ever go there.

Anyways, because they took care of the car for us, we had very light loads today. We only had to walk 12 miles today until we got back to the Old Iron Inn, where we have been staying. The weather was nice. The only challenge we faced were some big hills and all of our bodies are sore as crap. Nothing we aren’t used to though.

We pushed on and went up a huge hill. At the top, we had a woman behind a huge camera on a tripod waiting for us. It was channel 8 news coming out to do a follow up story. Good. The feedback that we had gotten from the last piece they aired was really good. We spoke about that during the interview and we also invited people to walk the last mile with us in Fort Kent.

During the interview, two separate people in two separate cars pulled over to say hello to us. The reporter was stunned, as the things we were talking about in the interview were happening right in front of her. One woman came with cold drinks and smiles and the other woman came with more. She had a story of loss in her family and how the community has come together to help her daughter get into a good place in recovery. It was a tearful moment for us all that ended with hugs. The reporter had a story that shook us all up too. It was quite a moment. At least, for a quick moment on the side of the road, we all had support for each other. I hope that offers a little bit of healing for everyone involved.

We kept going and we had one person after another doing something nice for us. Some people pulling over to donate, others to give us cold drinks or snacks, and some to come and talk and take pictures. One mother came with her daughter who was around 10 or 11 years old. She took the opportunity to have a quick conversation about saying no to drugs. I love when that happens.

We pushed our way back to the house. We all crawled in with hurt bodies. Jessie was in the worst shape. Her feet are all blistered up. She perservered today though. I was proud af of her. I have personally seen a lot of people quit this walk from way less than she has had to deal with. She is very dedicated. I think she is surprising herself while all of this is happening. It was a huge feat that she signed up for and she is killing it.

We all laid down for naps. I had wanted to spend some time with our hosts but we were too exhausted.

more to come… will update tonight
