Day 22 – 0 miles

Had a lovely night’s sleep camping out on a dock right on the water. There has been a lot of tension lately within the team. I was up all morning thinking of things that I could say to try to make things better.

When everyone was sitting together I tried to start up the conversation but they weren’t having it. It was over. I lost them. They has already been planning to go on without me. It hurt but I knew I had to keep going no matter what so we came up with the best option for a peaceful split.

That’s all the details that I want to give about that.

So I dropped Meghan, Abhay, and Allison off at a safe place and they unloaded their things. I rode off without saying goodbye. I felt bad about that and shouldn’t have done it.

So now it was just me and Stick and Domino. We have to either find someone who wants to be a support driver for us or we have to get rid of the car and just use our pushcarts to carry all of our gear. We are getting ourselves mentally prepared for that. We’ve both done it before so the experience will come in handy. We’d prefer to keep the car but that just may be too much to ask.

We rode to go get something to eat and process all of this that just went down. We’re both sad but relieved at the same time. The tension over the last few weeks has been exhausting. This was best for everyone.

We ate and then rode to find a spot to camp. We found a business that had a good spot that was out of sight and wouldn’t bother anybody so we walked up and asked if we could camp there. Stick took the lead on that and did great. The woman who answered the door had heard about us and our cause. That felt good to know that we were reaching the general public. We now had permission for a free place to sleep for the night. It’s always a better night’s sleep when you have permission.

We sat around and did phone stuff, played with Domino, and talked about the plans for moving forward.

We will have to move the car back and forth so we have to think efficiently. Tomorrow we just want to walk and try to stay positive so we’re going to just walk our 20 miles and then take Lyft back to our car. I have only used Uber and have never used Lyft so I should be able to get a good rate. After that, we can use the public bus. They just don’t run on Sundays.

So we should be able to buy some time with the car until we sort out the best scenario. The important thing is to keep moving.
