An off day but we still had to get up and pack up early to go to a parade that we got invited to be in. We loaded up and met up with the KOA people who were taking us there.
While we were all waiting in the parking lot where the parade floats were, I did my usual networking rounds and went to meet everyone and talk about what they were doing and what we were doing. We got to meet all kinds of people. A lot of people running for congress, so I definitely made sure to tell them what we think can benefit their state regarding the opioid crisis. Lots of friendly local business owners were there as well. It was a great morning.
The parade started and it was so cool. Slightly humorous that we were there, but very serious at the same time. What an opportunity for community engagement. We could hear people saying, “they are walking across america for overdose awareness” as they read our carts. Some people recognized us from seeing us on the road and others from seeing us on the news. We got to see the impact of our outreach firsthand. One woman got up out of her seat and chased us down to give us hugs. She was fighting back tears and thanked genuinely for doing what we are doing. Stick got emotional when that happened. I choked up a little bit later on when a girl that saw the cart came up and thanked us and then she said her name is Brittany too. What a great experience. Bucksport, Maine parade. This will definitely make the book if there ever is one.
We thanked the staff at KOA for letting us come with them and then we headed to Bangor to run some errands. Then I did some computer work to get somewhat caught up with emails and route planning. i am still so far behind. There aren’t enough hours in the day when you have to walk for 10 of them. I am doing my best though.
I did as much as I could then we headed towards our friend’s house who offered to put us up. This is so cool… We met this man and his wife in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.
They were on a trip when we were there and now we are passing by where they live. We were so excited to see them again. We got to the house and it was incredible. A true hidden gem near Acadia National Park. They had an amazing garden and some chickens. Domino and their dog took off running and playing in the large yard. We walked around the property with our host.
They made an incredible dinner for us. Steamers, corn, green beans, potato salad and more. Soooo good. We ate up and had great conversation. Then we went out on the back patio to watch the sun go down and the stars come out. It was beautiful. We saw Venus and Jupiter along with thousands of stars.
