Day 59 – 23 miles – 812 total miles

We had a nice and early start this morning. We had a one hour drive out to our starting point. Stick was feeling a little sick but after eating and some fresh air he felt fine.

Our first stretch was about 2 miles of busy highway with no shoulder. We rushed through it knowing that we had a long stretch of backroads waiting ahead. We were very glad when we got there. There was an old highway that ran parallel to the new highway and was pretty much unused. We had this awesome road for 14 miles. It was great.

We hit our 800 mile mark which was a big one. It marks 1/3 of our trek completed. Boom. We marked the street with chalk and did live videos to celebrate the moment.

Back to the road. The rest of the backroads were great. Nice and quiet with beautiful scenery. Spring blooms and old houses. Then we got back to hwy 17.

We had a stretch of about 5 miles that we had to walk on hwy 17 and had way around it. It was horrible but we made it work. Our feet were killing us because we had to walk on the bumpy roadside to avoid becoming roadkill. We had to fight hard to make it but we did. We made it to our goal for the day and it was an ambitious one to begin with. My dad was there waiting to take us back to our car and then follow us back to his house.

The entire car trip was spent in pain but things started to settle in when we got back to my dad’s and he made us steak and potatoes. That definitely perked us up. Got a big day tomorrow. Stay tuned!
