Day 55 – 20 miles – 753 total

We left my brother’s house for the last time this morning. We packed all of our stuff up and said goodbye and thank you to Cameron. Then we drove over to our starting point where we met Katie and her stepfather.

Katie would be walking with us today. They drove 8 hours to do this. She was doing it for Melanie, our team member who passed away right before the start of the walk. Melanie was very special to Katie and helped her go through some really hard times. I won’t put any personal stuff on here about either of them but I was very honored and grateful for Katie walking with us. Melanie means a lot to us too.

We all three, plus Domino, started walking. We had busy highways all day and high winds. Not the best conditions for having company but we did our best. I really enjoyed all of the conversations that we had. The first half of the day we all walked nect to each other and talked while walking.

The second half of the day we went to a single file postion where we had some alone time for our thoughts. We all stayed close enough to say things here and there though.

We came up to a bridge and we saw one of our Amazon Smile boxes that me and Stick consider our Melanie moments. I just knew that we would see one today. 🙂

We crossed the long bridge over the ocean and saw a dolphin swimming below. On the other side of the bridge we did a quick interview on camera for the documentary and then her stepdad came and picked her up and they had to drive back to Tennessee. Katie did great. The conditions were very tough and she handled it well. She would be welcome back anytime!

It was back to me, stick, and domino. We had about 5 miles to go to hit our daily goal of 20 miles. They were tough on us. Our feet an legs were feeling the 4 days that we took off. We fought through it anyways. We made it to a good stopping point and my Dad was able to pick us up on his way home from work. We just happened to be in the same area at the same time.

He took us back to our car but we grabbed dinner first. He took us out to this incredible Italian restaurant and we all ate delicious flavors until we couldn’t eat anymore. He then told us that a friend of his was able to pay for a hotel room for us so that we didn’t have to camp.

We checked in and now we feel like kings with full bellies and beds to lay in. A great day. Can’t wait to do it all over again tomorrow!

That dolphin you saw was me sending you positive thoughts. My favorite mammal. Sounds like you guys are making the best of whatever is put in your way. I have no doubts that you will always be that way. So proud of you and Stick and Domino. She’s such great girl. If I had a car and the funds< I'd probably take a drive down south to see you guys. I like spontaneous road trips. Stay safe.
