Day 33 – 17.5 miles – 459.5 total

We woke up and enjoyed the sunrise from the lovely comforts of a Hilton hotel room on the beachside of Daytona. So nice. We waited until 7 am for breakfast to open and then devoured some protein. We then headed back to our starting location for our walk.

It was 8:30 am when we started walking. The latest start we have had since it has just been me and Stick on the Freedom to Grow team. The weather was cool today so a late start didn’t hurt us. It was nice to be walking again.

We crossed over a bridge which took us into Daytona Beach. The tide was out and Stick suggested that we walk on the beach. I wasn’t sure that it was going to work but we gave it a shot anyways. I am so glad that we did.

The sand was packed hard enough to where the carts rolled easily. We took our shoes off and walked barefoot in the sand and water for at least 5 miles. It was a great experience. We passed a lot of people to talk to about our mission.

A freind of mine from drugrehab.com came out to join us for a while. Trey and I have worked together before but had never met in person. It was fun getting to know him more. He walked about 5 miles with us mostly along the beach. He then helped us move our car forward so that we had it at the end of the day. Check their website out. It has great information and resources for people with addiction and their loved ones.

We finished our walk and headed to a sober living community that offered to put us up for the night. It’s called Solutions By The Sea. It seems to be a really great place for the people who attend. They have all been very welcoming to us. They have space for 160 men and the program has great guidelines that lead people to success if worked properly.

We are staying in a building that they use for recovery meetings and they had one tonight. There were over 100 people in attendance. It was awesome. We got to talk with a lot of them and our walk and our mission was received very well by them.

We never heard back from the young man who wanted some help but he knows that he can call me whenever he is ready. It crushed me that I didn’t hear from him. If I hear anything I will definitely give an update.

Well I am so sorry that the young man didn’t show up. As we well know you have to have the right mind set to make the decision to quit.
You did your best. You can’t save them all. You may have made a big enough impact on him that may have just saved his life.
It reminds me of a story where a boy walking home from school and some rotten kids knocked the books out of his hands. Another young man came along
and helped him pick them up. They became friends and remained so until graduation. The young man who was bullied went on to become Validictorian. During his speech he talked about the time when he had the book knocked out of his hands and some other kid helped and they became best friends. What they did not know was that day, he cleaned his locker out so his mother wouldn’t have to do it. He had planned to go home and kill himself.
So Brett if you can save one person, God willing they will save someone else and create a domino affect.
Take young man. Continue to hold that head up and spread your word and ideas for the future. Happy Trails❤️👣👣🐾🐾🙏🏻
