We slept in and had an amazing breakfast at our lovely hosts’ house. We didn’t want to leave. Domino didn’t either. It was a real treat to have been welcome into this home. Stick and I left feeling sad to leave but happy to have had the experience.
We went to Bucksport to meet up with Jessie. Jessie is joining us on our walk. Hopefully for the remainder of it. She has been planning and gathering gear for a few weeks and today is the big day to join. It worked out well for it to be on an off day so that we can get her gear set up and make sure we are all squared away before hitting the road.
We picked her up and drove to a park nearby to hang out for a few hours and tinker with all of our gear. We met Jess and her family back in South Carolina and it is cool how she has come to join us. Her mother walked with us in SC in honor of her son Brian. Jess is now walking for him too. Her story is for her to share and not me so I choose not to say too much about her personal matters here on my blog. We are very excited to have her with us though.
We spent all day just taking it easy and resting up. Then we met up with my friends from back home. The Mannings are an awesome family who I unfortunately know from a grief support group that I started back in Georgia. They lost their sweet Dustin a little over a year ago and we have tried to be a part of each others journey since then. I am very glad that they were able to work this out to join us on our walk all the way up in Maine.
They let us stay at a cabin that they rented and it was amazing. We had an awesome dinner that they made and we got to all hang out a little. They will be walking with us tomorrow and I can’t wait!
It is crazy how we are all from different places and families and we all happened to be here in the middle of nowhere Maine together out of grief. This is why I say that I know Brittany, Dustin, and Brian are at work. Whether it is only happening through us or if they are actually around somewhere making this happen, they still get the credit for all of us being here. Can’t wait to honor them all with some steps tomorow!
