Day 145 – 9 miles – 1,875 total

Woke up refreshed after a great and silent night’s sleep. We had breakfast, cleaned up the place, and then hit the road. As we were walking through the neighborhood, neighbors on their way to work were stopping to talk to us. We had 3 conversations and $60 in donations within 2 blocks. It was a great start.

More people were out as we walked along the shore. We talked to quite a few people and enjoyed taking the time to do so. Every single one of them was affected by our cause. This was a very wealthy neighborhood too. Hopefully it will get them all to talk about it for a while.

We got back out to route 1. We had plans for a short day of 10 miles and then catch a train back to our car to move it up. The problem was that we had been slowed down by all the people that we talked to so we had to move swiftly to catch the train.

We pounded the pavement with purpose. A few people still stopped to talk to us. We stayed to talk with them but were a little quicker with our delivery than normal.

One man pulled over and told us that he lost a son 10 years ago to an overdose and has a daughter who is living with addiction now. He was in tears as we talked on the side of the road. I broke down in tears after he left. A very powerful moment for all of us.

After that we pushed on with hot feet. We had to step on it or we would miss the train and have to replan the whole day. We didn’t want to do that.

We got there just in time. I left the carts and Domino with Stick and ran to the train station. Then rode the train with one transfer back to our car. Then drove our car back up to Stick. The whole process took 4 hours. We had walked far.

We got everything loaded up and went to eat and then went to checkin at a KOA campground. We set up our tents and did laundry and showers and all that other crap and that was that. Another day in the books…
