Day 138 – 17 miles – 1,774 total

We had a very long commute back to our starting spot in the city. We left Westfield, NJ on the train at about 7:40. We didn’t get to our carts until a little after 9:30. 2 hours of trains, subways, and millions of people scattering around. I loved it. Stick hated it. I definitely couldn’t do it every day. I am so glad that we get to see all kinds of different places. NYC is really cool but there is no way that I would live here… ever.

Harlem was pretty cool though. That’s where our carts were. We went to pick them up and started our walk. A news crew with CBS was on their way to meet us for an interview. We walked through Harlem, across the 3rd Ave bridge, and into The Bronx.

The news crew met us there and we did interviews on a very busy street. There were people gathering around and they filmed us interacting with them. I was speaking Spanish to one guy. It was sloppy but he got the point of why were doing the walk. I felt kind of cool, not gonna lie.

The story she was working on seemed to be a good one. She put a lot of effort into capturing what we do out here and how it affects others. She interviewed a woman who lives in Long Island that lost her son and followed my last walk on Facebook. She also interviewed a few people on the street. I hope it turns out to be a piece that will help someone who sees it.

We walked the rest of the day through the Bronx. We were on main roads until we got to the Bronx Zoo and then took bike paths for the rest of the day. All the way to New Rochelle. We talked to some people along the way and took in all of the crazy things that the city has to offer. We are so ready to be back in the country haha.

We got to the train station in New Rochelle where we thought it would be an easy train ride home. We get to the ticket gate and realize that it doesn’t take us exactly where we thought it would and we have to do all kinds of transfers just to get back to New Jersey. We are so glad that this is our last day dealing with the trains and subways. We are over it lol.

Too many people and not enough engagement. It’s crazy how people look at you weird when you smile and wave at them. I love New York but only in small doses. Glad we walked through it though.

Until tomorrow…

Sounds like you guys had a great experience. I haven’t seen Domino in photos lately. I hope she’s doing well. New York is a huge busy city and during my visit there, I wondered how the firetrucks managed to get down those narrow busy streets. Stay safe guys and I’m so happy to hear about the interview.

Beautiful scenery too. It’s a nice place to visit but it’s way too big and busy for me. There’s no place like home.
