We walked downstairs for free breakfast at the hotel and there was a group of about 40 teenage children that took the lobby over. We had to fight for cinnamon rolls but they had no chance against two hungry cross-country walkers. We ate breakfast and then packed our things and rolled our carts through the lobby. We were not quite awake enough yet to engage with all the chaos so we just plowed through and kept moving.
It was a little chilly out which was nice for walking. We had an 8 mile stretch on a busy road and then we were able to catch a bike path. The bike path was great.
Sometimes it was paved and sometimes it was packed brickdust. It was smooth on our carts. No traffic to worry about. Beautiful scenery and lots of small animals. We saw a lot of cool birds, turtles, groundhogs, rabbits, etc. Domino’s ears and nose were busy all day.
We talked to a few people here and there. Two people that we talked to had lost a family member to an overdose. This epidemic is horrible up in the northeast. We see signs of it everywhere.
We made it to a bridge over the Delaware River. This is where we crossed into New Jersey. Our ninth state on this walk.
The very first thing that happened was that we almost got run over by a police officer who didn’t stop for us while we were in the crosswalk. Welcome to Jersey.
Other people saved the day though. We had a lot of friendly conversations. The trail on the Jersey side was nice. We didn’t have to worry about bad neighborhoods because we were on the trail. We didn’t see many people on it at all.
We walked until our bodies had enough and then we went to a diner for some dinner. We had originally planned on stealth camping tonight along the trail but there weren’t many great options available for that. It was swampy and still close to the city. It wouldn’t have worked out very well. We decided to spring for a hotel room.
There was a HOJO right there so we got a room and called it a day. Now we’re watching game 4 of the stanley cup finals until we fall asleep.
That trail looks fantastic!
You guys rock! Don’t forget that.
