We woke up early and got ready to leave to try to beat traffic. I was feeling a lot better from my cold but still had some symptoms left. My uncle made us breakfast to go and we hit the roads.
We had to drive from Fairfax, VA to the other side of Bowie, MD. Luckily, we did beat traffic and made it in about 40 minutes. We got to our starting point and loaded up the carts for the day.
We started walking north on 301. It had a really wide shoulder and was great for walking. Drivers were definitely in full idiot mode this morning. It’s the beginning of Memorial Day weekend so people just lose all sense of awareness. We had to pay close attention even though we had a large shoulder to protect us.
We took a break at a 7/11 gas station and as were about to pay, a woman behind us said that she was going to pay for us. She had seen our carts outside and wanted to show her support and appreciation. We were in awe. Took us totally by surprise. Her name was May. A-MAY-zing.
We caught a break and came upon a 3 mile bike path so we took it. I let Domino out to walk because she had been riding all day due to being on a busy road. She was acting so dramatic. She didn’t want to walk so she was excessively panting and even fake coughing. It was ridiculous. I stopped to give her water and she wouldn’t drink it because it wasn’t cold enough. I’ve created a diva haha. I made her walk a couple of miles while on the trail and she hated every second of it. Silly girl just wasn’t feeling it. She finally won me over and she rode in the cart the rest of the day. With a pillow to lay on and a canopy for shade. Penthouse Princess.
We knocked out 23 miles like it was nothing. Not the slightest achey muscle or soreness in our feet. We were well rested and it paid off.
Our friend Tim came and picked us up and gave us money for a hotel room. We went to get our car then went to go check in to a hotel room close to where our end point was.
I called a Holiday Inn and straight up asked them for a free room. They couldn’t do free but they gave a great rate for us. So we checked in and got cleaned up.
Tim and his wife Lori came to pick us up to take us to dinner in downtown Baltimore. I’ve always wanted to go to this city. I’ve never been here and it’s beautiful. We drove by the stadiums and through downtown. Then went to a place called Ale Mary’s. Mary went to high school with Tim.
They had crabby tots. Tater tots covered in melted cheese and loaded with crab dip. Absolutely amazing. We all left barely able to walk back to the car.
It was so great hanging out with them. I really enjoyed the company and definitely enjoyed the hotel room. We got back to it and were down for the count quickly after such a great meal.
It was great hanging out and going to dinner Brett. We are definitely looking forward to you getting back to visit!
