We headed to the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. to meet up with my uncle and walk a 6 mile loop around the National Mall. It was strictly for awareness and education.
We drew large crowds of people as we walked around with our carts that say “walking across America for overdose awareness” and Domino was helping draw people in too. Some of the groups were young teenagers and it was a great opportunity to briefly talk to them about drugs. I was so honored to be there in that moment. I told them that more people died from drug overdose deaths in America last year than the amount of Americans who died in the entire Vietnam War. I imagine that it stuck with some of them as they walked the memorial and saw all the names of the fallen soldiers.
We also met a couple from England who are cycling across the US. They were starting their trip in DC the next day. It was a very exciting conversation. They are doing really cool things. Check out more about them at www.quitefancythat.co.uk
We walked by all the main sites in D.C. Got our pictures, talked to people, and kept stepping. It was a fun day.
Then my uncle took Domino back to his house and Stick and I went to a Nationals game. We watched the whole game and then Stick got to go walk on the field because it was senior night and everyone 60 years and up could walk the bases. Very fitting since he beat it by 2 days. It was fun watching him go.
Then we got back to my uncle’s and ordered pizza and all watched the hockey game together. Great day.
