I got to sleep in finally! It was great. Then I got ready and Stick and I headed over to the McShin Foundation. Everyone who we asked told us they were the best place in Richmond for addiction treatment. They welcomed us in and asked if I would lead a group meeting. I had no idea how to do it or what to say but I was happy to try. We got there and talked to some of the staff and then the group started. You can see how many people there were in the photo. They are all in the early stages of the program. From still detoxing to a few months. I knew my sister was with me so I gave it to my heart and just told my story.
They recieved it well and the feedback made me cry. Some of them were definitely inspired by the words I had to share with them. My main topic was ‘direction’. Living life with a goal and having a purpose bigger than yourself as a driving force. They all seemed to want that. I was able to give them hope. None of this would have ever had happened without my sister passing away. I love doing things like this because I feel like she would love it and for me it is a way to keep her legacy of compassion for others alive. She is still helping people.
It was amazing and the program and the staff were awesome. They really have created a good recovery community where people can get help if they want it.
Two of the staff members took us out to dinner. It was very special. We had a good connection and great conversation. It was a very enjoyable lunch and the food was excellent too. I’ll never forget McShin Foundation and truly hope to go back.
After that, Stick and I went to REI and Wal-mart and whatnot. Did all that crap and got it out of the way. Then headed back to the house.
We had steak and potatoes and an awesome salad for dinner. So good!!!! It was awesome. We had a great night. Lots of laughs and we stayed up a little later knowing that we could all sleep in the next morning.
