We were up early and went to get free breakfast at the hotel. We ate up and got ready for the day. We were blessed with a hotel room for another night provided by the Cross family that we met at church on Sunday. We were able to leave our carts and Domino in the room and give them a break while me and Stick walked with just the things that we needed for the day.
We drove the car back to the starting point where we left the car and started walking. My brother will be picking up the car from there and bringing it to Savannah. We needed to wall back to the hotel which was about 19 miles away.
The morning was really cold so we walked faster to try to warm up. Thankfully the sun was getting higher amd eventually warmed up. The weather was really nice actually. So were the roads that we picked to walk on.
A few miles in, we were joined by another person. Shane Nelson came to walk with us for a few days. He walked across the country in 2015 and lives in Savannah. He joined us in honor of his friend Matt. He brought his own gear and his own cart so he can camp with us if needed. I’m so excited to walk with him for a few days. He made a film about his walk called Left. You can check it out here https://www.lazarettocreek.com/media/
The rest of the day was just us three walking and talking. The company was great. We walked and walked and never even stopped for a break.
We came into Darien and passed the local newspaper shop so we walked in and me and Stick started telling the woman our story. She had that horrible mindset about this crisis and kept saying things like “well they need to just stop taking the drugs.” I was letting her have it but remaining as polite as possible. Hopefully she’ll run our story but I doubt it. This is why we do what we do though. We planted the seed in her about how addiction takes over the brain and makes the choice to “just quit” nearly impossible.
We kept going and got back to the room where Domino was waiting patiently to say hello to us. We all had some quiet time where we got all our phone stuff done and relaxed a bit. That’s about it. I am looking forward to resting up and getting back out there tomorrow!
Should’ve given that newspaper lady a copy of my book lol
