It was still dark when we woke up to break down our camp sites. There was a full moon giving us just enough light to pack up without using our head lamps. The outside of my tent was wet from some rain last night but everything else was dry. I place the wet piece in a separate bag so i could lay it out in the sun later.
We went across the street to a gas station and used their restroom to freshen up and then got a light breakfast before hitting the road.
Domino’s ear was bothering her again and it was obviously giving her discomfort. We stopped to address it. I did the full ear cleaning treatment system that has been working and then let her ride in Lieutenant Dan for a while so that her ears wouldn’t be flapping up and down like they do when she walks. She felt better later on and was able to walk about half the day.
The area we were in was absolutely beautiful. We had a nice wide sidewalk and ocean views. We came into a town called Marineland. We actually had to stop to take in it’s beauty. The whole day was like this. Just an easy walking day.
I got news from my family that my brother Brandon and his wife just had a baby. Eliza makes me a 5 time uncle. I hated that I wasn’t there but I’m looking forward to meeting her when I’m done with this. I am very proud of Brandon and Karina. They have a beautiful family and it just grew some more!
I had another thing to celebrate today. We made it 500 miles on our walk. Stick was all excited about celebrating with a cigar. I am not a cigar smoker at all but I thought I’d join him this time and I’d also celebrate Eliza in the process.
I went into a cigar store and said I’m not a smoker and that I wanted something cheap and small. I told the guy what I was celebrating and he bought it for me. I thanked him and then headed over to Stick so we could light them up.
I just don’t understand cigars lol. I couldn’t stand it. Stick was loving the moment though so I carried on with it so as not to bring him down from that.
We were right around the corner from our destination for the night. A KOA campground that a friend of a friend was able to book for us. Thank you Robin and Kay! 🙂
If you have never been to one, KOA is the Cadillac of campgrounds. Clean and all amenities available. We set up our tents and then did showers and laundry and charged up all of our devices. I used the wifi to upload all of my photos to the cloud so that I could delete them off of my phone to free up space.
We then went to dinner nearby. Stick was adamant on paying for it. We ate at a Thai noodle place and destroyed the meals they gave us. It was really good food. We ate and then waddled back to our campsite with sore legs and full bellies.
A young couple was at the site next to ours and we said hello. They had moved to Atlanta recently and were out here chasing waves to surf. We talked for a while about our walk and about Freedom to Grow and then all said our goodnights and retreated to our tents.
Great day. 500 miles!!
“I would wakj 500 miles”, the Proclaimers…great song to celebrate with!!
